Privacy Policy

RoomFinderIndia ("we") collects the data necessary to run a rental marketplace: your contact info, property listings, messages, payments, and identity documents (when you choose to verify). We do not sell your data. We use trusted third parties like Razorpay (payments), Google (sign-in, maps), Meta (WhatsApp), and our cloud hosting providers.

• Account: name, email, phone, password hash, role (renter/landlord).
• Profile: bio, profile photo, preferred cities, languages, roommate preferences.
• Listings (landlords): address, rent, photos, house rules.
• KYC (optional): government-issued ID (Aadhaar, PAN, etc.), selfie. Used only to verify identity.
• Lease agreements: parties, amounts, signatures.
• Payments: Razorpay handles card/UPI data; we store only the payment ID and status.
• Activity: messages, saved searches, area ratings, reviews, IP address, device type.
• Location: only if you grant permission (for map search).

• Operate and improve the Platform
• Match tenants with properties and roommates
• Process payments and deposits
• Generate lease PDFs and HRA receipts
• Send transactional notifications (email, push, WhatsApp)
• Detect fraud and prevent abuse
• Comply with applicable laws (e.g. responding to court orders)

We share only the minimum data required with:

• Razorpay — payment processing
• Google — sign-in, maps, address geocoding
• Meta (WhatsApp) — optional notifications
• Our hosting providers — AWS / Google Cloud / Railway / Render
• Law enforcement — only when legally required

We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or data brokers.

Account data is kept while your account is active and for 12 months after closure (for audit and legal purposes). KYC images are retained for 7 years per Indian regulation. Messages are retained unless you delete your account, at which point they are anonymised.

Under Indian DPDP Act, 2023, you can:

• Request a copy of your personal data
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion (subject to legal retention requirements)
• Withdraw consent for processing
• File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India

We use HTTPS, hashed passwords (bcrypt), encrypted cloud storage, and least-privilege access. No system is 100% secure; report any suspected breach to security@roomfinderindia.com.

The Platform is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We use essential cookies for authentication and preferences (e.g. your selected language). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
